Overview

As the weather warms up in the city, you have an alternative to your usual method of transporting medium-sized items. Instead of renting a car to move things from A to B, you can now use the free service provided by fLotte Berlin.

They offer the rental of freight, box, and cargo bikes – without any fee. No strings attached. All you need to do is:

  1. Register on their website
  2. Check the calendar to see when a bike is available
  3. Book it for free

Currently, they have 9 bikes, located at 7 different locations around the city (health food stores, cafés, bike repair shops).

How to Rent

  1. First, register a free account on their site.
  2. Then check the calendar to see when the next bike is available.
  3. To select a bike, click on its name in the left column. Click on the day you want to rent it (available days are highlighted in green).
  4. Click on Jetzt buchen (book now) at the bottom.

The first time you book, go to the location and pick up the bike. Remember to check the opening hours of the place, as you can only pick up and return the bike during these times. You also need to bring your ID card or passport and something that verifies your address, such as your Meldebescheinigung (which is required for their insurance and will be copied).

Why Is It Free?

The entire project is supported by the ADFC (Allgemeiner Deutscher Fahrrad-Club – German Cyclist’s Association). Their goal is to promote bicycle riding and contribute to a greener city with cleaner air and fewer cars. Sounds reasonable. 👍
